The Beauty of Music

Black Dress White Pearls

I firmly believe the beauty of music is the creation of where it comes from.  It doesn’t make a difference if it’s Religious, Blues, Country, Electronic, Hip hop, Jazz, Latin, Pop, Reggae, R&B or Rock.  Each genre of music has a way of making the listener move and associate with whatever is going on that particular time.  I asked a songwriter when they wrote a song, why did they come up with that particular song.  He replied “it was something that I was going through or witness first hand”.  To be able to write a song and have it touch so many people lives can be an amazing and humbling experience.  Take for instance Pharrell Williams when he wrote and produced the song Happy”.  He never thought in a million years that the song would become an international favorite.  I believe that sometimes a song can reach deep down and touch you in a way to make you feel it and understand it.  Do you believe being in a specific place at a specific time?  You actually believe that the song was made just for you at that particular time.

On April 19, 2014, I had the opportunity to attend an event hosted by the DIVA Women’s Organization called Black Dress White Pearls; this event was created by Dr. Ane Mercer.  All proceeds benefited the Camden House  which is a non-profit domestic violence program in Camden and Charlton County Georgia.

Part of the entertainment was a lovely lady named Darlene McCoy.  She is a singer, songwriter, author, minister, and radio personality on Atlanta’s Inspiration Station Praise 102.5.  "The Darlene McCoy Show" states that it lends even the radio that edgy approach to Christianity and inspiration.  Ms. McCoy presented a melody of her songs, but 2 songs that struck the very depth of me and touch me in a way that moved me beyond words was “I Shall Live and Not Die” and “Not Guilty”.

Whatever your spiritual beliefs or demonization are has nothing to do when a song touches you.  You truly believe that they are singing to you and whatever you are going through at that particular time in your life.  I have been around music my whole life and it doesn’t make a difference what type of music it is.  Music is the universal language that everyone can relate to.

The beauty of music is the creation of where it comes from, so be unique and different!

Sing, Compose and Produce from your heart!
